With an increase in violence and the influence of social media leading students to make choices that are harmful to themselves & others, community investment in schools and parental involvement in children’s education is more important than ever! TISD’s DAD Squad provides a unique opportunity for father figures in the community to provide a positive presence that increases positive decision-making by our students. Specifically, DAD Squad has two primary goals.
To provide positive role models for students through their visible presence on campus.
To provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
DAD Squad Requirements
For the safety of our staff and students, DAD Squad Members must meet the following requirements to volunteer at Tarkington Middle School.
Be a father, grandfather, uncle, or other father figure of a currently enrolled student at a TISD campus.
Be at least 25 years of age.
Complete the district volunteer application.
Have a background check conducted (as part of the district volunteer application process)
Sign a confidentiality or non-disclosure agreement to protect the rights of our students. The majority of students are minors. School personnel must comply with FERPA requirements to protect their confidential information.
Attend a short DAD Squad training session.
Sign in to the Raptor system each time you enter the campus and wear the Raptor visitor sticker on the upper chest area.
Volunteer at least 8 hours over the duration of the school year (One or more shifts can be chosen each day. Shifts are available in approximately 2-hour time periods daily).
Wear the TISD DAD Squad t-shirt and jeans or dress pants, visually communicating to students and staff your presence and role on the campus, for the duration of your visit.
DAD Squad Activities
Be a positive presence around campus to encourage positive choices during:
