SHAC

Information

The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is appointed by the TISD School Board and serves in an advisory role, assisting the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in health education instruction. The majority of members are parents who are not employed by the district. TISD’s SHAC meets at least four times each year.

Additionally, our SHAC plays an important role in strengthening the connection between health and learning. Through the efforts of our SHAC all TISD stakeholders are encouraged to assist in reinforcing the knowledge and skills students need to stay healthy for a lifetime.

Why do we need a School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)?

  1. It is Texas law.

  2. Healthy children learn better.

  3. Schools play an important role in teaching healthy habits.

  4. Healthy homes and healthy schools support healthy children.
