The Tarkington Independent School District allows limited use of District facilities by outside  organizations/groups. However, such use of District facilities shall not be permitted when it interferes  with the educational program of any scheduled campus or District activities, including facility  maintenance and/or repairs. 

How to Apply

All requests must be submitted at least 10 business days prior to the event using the External (outside organizations) Facility Use  Request form located below. All requests  will be considered according to these guidelines. The administration reserves the right to deviate when necessary  to achieve the overall purpose of the guidelines.

Flyer Distribution Guidelines for Community Organizations

Thank you for your interest in distributing promotional materials in Tarkington Independent School District.  The Tarkington Independent School District partners with community non-profit organizations or programs to provide information to students and families about educational and recreational opportunities that enrich, engage, and enliven the educational experience for our students, families, and staff. We believe that it is part of our purpose to serve as a conduit between non-profit community partners and our families.  No promotions by any for-profit or commercial organization will be permitted.

To Request Flyer Approval:

• Prior approval by district administration (superintendent or communications office) before any outside materials are distributed.
• Submit your request to: Stephanie Young,  syoung@tarkingtonisd.net.
• Flyers can be sent out via email or posted online.  Tarkington Independent School District will not make copies of flyers to pass out or place them in student folders.
• Flyers must contain the following information:

  • Organization or Sponsor

  • Name and phone number of an adult contact person

  • Description of event

  • Location, date and time

  • Cost (if any)

  • Ages of children (if applicable)

  • Disclaimer (see below)

Tarkington Independent School District will NOT approve the distribution of flyers that:

• Promote, publicize, or provide materials for projects, activities, or programs of a particular church, religious organization, or religious viewpoint.
• Promote, publicize, or provide materials for projects, activities, or programs of a particular political party, political organization, political viewpoint, or ideology.
• Promote, publicize, or provide materials for projects, activities, or programs of a particular affinity group.
• Promote the use or sale of materials or services that are illegal or inconsistent with school objectives, including but not limited to materials or advertisements for alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, smokeless tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, and movies or products unsuitable for children.
• Promote commercial enterprises.
• Position the Tarkington Independent School District on any side of a controversial issue.
• Are lewd, obscene, libelous, or slanderous.
• Incite students to commit unlawful acts, violate school rules, or disrupt the orderly operation of schools.
• Solicit funds or services for an organization unless authorized by Board policy.
• Do not align with the mission of the Tarkington Independent School District.

The Texas Public Information Act (the “Public Information Act” or the “Act”) gives the public the right to request access to government information.

The request must ask for records or information already in existence. The Act does not require the district to create new information, to do legal research, or to answer questions.

All public requests must be made in writing using the form below.  Requests for records are handled in accordance with GBA(Legal) Board Policy Public Information Program, the Board Policy Access to Public Information, and the  Texas Public Information Act. (Public Information Act Handbook)

TISD will provide the requested information promptly. Depending upon the complexity of the request and volume of other pending requests, this is typically 10 school/business days. Requests received after the close of the day or on a Friday that the district is closed; will be considered received as of the next business/school day. If we are unable to complete your request within 10 business days, we will notify you of the date we expect to complete your request. 

As provided by Texas Government Code § 552.261, the following estimate is an amount that reasonably includes all costs related to reproducing the public information, including costs of materials, labor, and overhead. The estimate is based on the district’s determination regarding what documents you are requesting and is subject to change upon receipt of any narrowing and/or clarification of your request.

• The charges for standard paper copies reproduced by means of an office machine copier or a computer printer is $.10 per page or part of a page. Each side that has recorded information is considered a page. 

• The charge for labor costs incurred in processing your request for public information is $15.00 an hour if the number of copies exceeds 50 pages.

The Records Management Guide is for all school district personnel who are involved in the process of retaining or accessing records on behalf of Tarkington ISD. The schedules contained within the records management guide are the mandatory minimum retention periods for records that are associated with public school districts as defined by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).

Tarkington Independent School District works cooperatively with the news media to facilitate the coverage of issues and events involving the school district, its students and staff.

Tarkington ISD is dedicated to providing all students with a safe, learning environment without unnecessary interruptions.  Outlined below are the Media Guidelines and Procedures for TISD. These guidelines and procedures are designed to promote the success of our students and staff, while keeping school day and event interruptions to a minimum and student safety at the forefront. Therefore, the following guidelines are in effect at all district campuses and facilities:

• All media inquiries should initially be directed to the Communications Department. The Communications Director, or designee, will work with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Campus Principal, and/or the Athletic Director to determine the district’s response to each media request.
• All media personnel must have prior authorization from the Communications Director, Athletic Director, and/or District Administration before entering district buildings and facilities.
• All media inquiries should be directed to the Director of Communications; Stephanie Young at syoung@tarkingtonisd.net.  Exceptions include routine athletic and/or extracurricular activity news coverage during games, tournaments and/or performances conducted outside the normal school day,
• TISD strictly enforces student privacy preferences and releases student information as outlined in the  Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Tarkington ISD began sharing information on social media with the sole purpose of reaching our community on an ongoing basis. We encourage your comments, ideas and concerns as they are important to ensure that a broad range of community members are active and informed participants in discussions.

We expect that participants will treat each other, as well as our district, employees, and students, with respect. In order to achieve this goal, Tarkington ISD social media administrators will not edit comments, but reserves the right to remove or hide posts or replies or to block users who violate the district's social media policies.

Comments that will be removed include, but are not limited to:

• Foul language (comments including but not limited to: profane or provocative language; hateful, racially or ethnically offensive or derogatory content; threats; obscene or sexually explicit language will be removed).
• Unrelated to the District or the post itself
• “Trolling” (making deliberately offensive or provocative post with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them)
• Spam
• Off-topic comments
• Comments containing links to external sources
• Comments with the intent to sell a product or service (Advertisements OR solicitation, including promotion or endorsement of any financial, commercial or non-governmental agency)
• Comments that link to crowdfunding sites
• Statements that are presumptively libelous, such as, but not limited to, that a person committed a crime OR was professionally incompetent
• Comments/posts that threaten to harm individuals, groups OR organizations
• Endorsement OR encouragement of illegal activities
• Endorsement of political candidates
• Repetitive posts that are copied and pasted
• Personal information including, but not limited to e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, mailing addresses, or identification numbers of any kind (Social Security numbers, student identification numbers, etc.)
