Longhorn Family:
Please join us in welcoming Coach Chad Taylor to TISD as our new Athletic Director(AD)/Head Football Coach(HFC)! Coach Taylor comes to us with a wealth of experience—in his 26 years in education he’s coached a variety of boys’ and girls’ sports in schools that range in size from 2A-6A. Coach Taylor’s small school experiences include Nocona High School, Italy High School, and West High School where he coached football, basketball, baseball, powerlifting, and track. During these years, his teams won district, regional semi-finalist, and state semi-finalist in football, and West High School won the Class 3A State Championship in baseball. From West, Texas to the large districts of Goose Creek, Jacksonville, and LaPorte ISD, Coach Taylor spent the next 15 years coaching and leading football, baseball, softball, and boys’ and girls’ powerlifting where once again his teams and individual athletes won various levels of championships. The last 9 years, Coach Taylor has been AD/HFC of Liberty ISD, his alma mater, where he was able to create a winning program for not only football and softball but other sports as well. In addition, Coach Taylor is experienced in the growth of a program that we in Tarkington are likely to see over the next 3-5 years, and we look forward to his support of that growth in all our UIL teams, programs, and their facilities!
Coach Taylor has been married to his college sweetheart, Mrs. Gale Pustejovsky Taylor of Abbott, Texas, for more 25 years and she, too, is an educator. Together they have 4 active, athletic children: 3 daughters and 1 son who range in age from 14 to 8.
We at TISD believe that Coach Taylor’s program philosophy and objectives align with our stakeholders’ expectations. When asked about his philosophy, Coach Taylor believes, “Teaching and coaching allow me the opportunity to contribute to the enrichment of our community and society as a whole. A strong athletic program can help students gain a sense of belonging and pride.” His goal as AD/HFC will be “to make the Tarkington athletic program one of the best programs in the state. This includes success on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. My goal is not simply to win as many football games as possible--although a high priority--but to make sure that every participant in the athletic program has a positive experience through their involvement with their particular sport. We are all one big family!”
