School Board Recognition

As citizen leaders, individual school board members face complex and demanding challenges.  Yet, few people fully understand the scope and far-reaching implications of board members’ responsibilities.

Their job is to establish a vision for the education program, design a structure to achieve that vision, assure schools are accountable to the community, and strongly advocate continuous improvement in student learning.

The time spent in board meetings represents just a small fraction of the hours school board members spend leading their districts.  They also work hard at seminars and training sessions to keep abreast of the latest trends in educational leadership and are deeply involved in community activities.  Their love of learning, and concern and caring for students, staff, and the community, drive board members’ desire to serve their school districts.

In recognition of this dedicated service, January is designated School Board Recognition Month.  This is a time to show our appreciation and begin to better understand how local trustees work together to provide a better future of our children.

Parents and residents of Tarkington,

Thank you.

Tarkington ISD has an outstanding reputation in our area.  This reputation is not new. For years and years people have felt this way.  It is not uncommon when parents are enrolling their kids to comment on how they have heard such good things about our schools.  These are parents who are moving in from both near and far.  This tells me that someone is talking about us and they are saying good things.

A good reputation is developed by hard work and then spread by word of mouth.  So, I would like to express my thanks for all you do to help Tarkington ISD.  I realize that many of you volunteer time to help out, some of you are employed by the District, and many of you take every opportunity to brag on our kids and our District.  I assure you, the employees of Tarkington ISD will continue to work hard to take care of our kids and earn the reputation that you expect of us.

As we start a new year, our focus is on curriculum and instructional improvement.  This will insure our students' success as they move from grade to grade and as they complete high school, enabling them to start their adult life with the skills and knowledge they need. Quite simply, my vision for Tarkington ISD is to earn the reputation which our community gives us.

Thanks again, and let’s continue to work together to the benefit of our kids!
